JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As the status remains pending for Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback Trevor Lawrence amid a high-ankle sprain suffered on Monday Night Football, the Jags made a move Friday that could impact team's offense nonetheless.
Jaguars Head Coach Doug Pederson said in a press conference Friday, that the team has placed wide receiver Christian Kirk on the injured reserve list.
Kirk suffered a core muscle injury in the quarter of the MNF game as well, and will have to miss at least four games, which is how many games the Jags have left of the regular season. However, the bright side is that he would be eligible to return from the IR list in time for the playoffs if the Jaguars end up fulfilling their expectations and finish strong.
On the topic of Lawrence's injury, Pederson said, "we'll see" in the press conference about the quarterback potentially playing Sunday. The franchise QB's status to play will be determined on gameday against the Cleveland Browns, as he is currently listed as "questionable" on the Jags' injury report.
"He moved around a little bit yesterday, see how he does today. Kind of base it on medical staff, how Trevor feels, and if he can go or not," Pederson said in Friday's press conference. "I'm still optimistic for this weekend, but again, the fact that he's willing and able to put himself out there for his teammates and his team speaks volumes."
In the event that Lawrence will not play versus the Browns, backup quarterback C.J. Beathard asserted his readiness to take helm of the starting position in a fill-in role.
"If the opportunity comes, I'll be in there ready to go," Beathard told First Coast News earlier this week. "But if it doesn't, I won't bat an eye about it. I want him to be healthy, I want him to play and play well."
