Jaguars' backup quarterback, C. J. Beathard ready to go if called up on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns

"We have confidence in Trevor, we have confidence in C. J., we have confidence in all our players"

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The status of Trevor Lawrence for the upcoming matchup in Cleveland remains uncertain, but the Jacksonville Jaguars are adopting a "next man up" mindset.

Backup quarterback C. J. Beathard asserts his readiness to step in if called upon. Beathard, familiar with high-pressure situations, notably stood prepared when Lawrence sustained a knee injury just weeks ago, although he did not take the field during that game.

Entering his seventh season in the league, Beathard spent three seasons with the 49ers before joining the Jaguars for his third season.

"If the opportunity comes, I'll be in there ready to go, but if it doesn't, I won't bat an eye about it. I want him to be healthy, I want him to play and play well," Beathard stated regarding Lawrence's potential absence against the Cleveland Browns.

Beathard, accustomed to the role of stepping in when required, has demonstrated his adaptability throughout his career. Accustomed to the unpredictability of the game, he remains poised and prepared, drawing from past experiences when called upon to relieve or stand in for key players. His seasoned approach to handling such scenarios underscores his readiness and composure under pressure.

Expressing confidence in Beathard's abilities, Jaguars' Tight End Evan Engram emphasized unwavering support for whichever teammate takes the field, emphasizing the team's commitment to maintaining momentum.

"Whoever is up, whoever is rolling, we're looking to go full speed ahead," Engram affirmed.

Jaguars starting quarterback, Trevor Lawrence weighed in.

"We’ve got great players around us, but the quarterback position is important and for him to be able to put together a drive to get us in field goal range, kick the game-tying field goal and send it to overtime, that’s huge," said Lawrence.

"To have that faith and confidence in your second guy that he can go do that, no matter the situation. We have a ton of confidence in him, he’s prepared for it. He’s played a lot of football too, he’s been a starter in this league. There’s no concern there," he added.

Word on if Trevor will sit out the start against Cleveland has not yet been determined. Keep up to date from the Jaguars organization by clicking here.
