Violent Saturday: 3 people shot, 1 found dead in 24 hours across Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating several incidents across the River City, with only one suspect in custody for a trio of shootings in a single day.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three people were shot and one person was found dead across Jacksonville on Saturday, marking a violent start for the first weekend in November. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said of the four incidents, one person is in police custody. 

2:30 a.m. | Man shot on Jacksonville's Westside

Officers responded to 800 Lane Avenue South around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in reference to a person shot. Upon arrival, officers located a man in his 20s with a single gunshot wound to the lower body. 

He was taken to the hospital in non-life-threatening condition, according to police.

The initial investigation revealed the victim was shot after intervening in a fight between the suspect and another man. During the fight, police said the suspect pulled out a firearm and shot the victim once. The suspect was located and detained by officers. 

7:30 a.m. | Woman found dead outside North Shore residence

A woman's body was found lying outside a residence in the North Shore area of Jacksonville Saturday morning.

Officers received a 911 call from the 6800 block of North Pearl Street regarding a person hurt. The call came in from a neighbor in the area, according to police.

Upon arrival, officers found an unidentified woman in her mid-20s, lying on the ground unresponsive. JFRD responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

"We cannot release what types of injuries that she does have, but there's enough that concern has been raised," said Sergeant M. Lessard with JSO. Lessard added that JSO does not know whether foul play was involved in the woman's death.

12:30 p.m. | Man shot outside Winn-Dixie on Jacksonville's Southside

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is currently searching for a person of interest after a shooting outside a Winn-Dixie in broad daylight Saturday left a man in the hospital. 

Officers responded to the 8700 block of Old Kings Road South around 12:30 p.m. regarding a person shot.

A man in his 40s was found shot in the abdomen. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an argument between the suspect, a man exiting a business, and the victim, a homeless man, in the Winn-Dixie parking lot. 

Police said there was a dispute that ensued between the men, which ended in one of the men shooting the other.

The suspect and an unknown female fled the area in a white sedan, according to police. The suspect was described by police as a man wearing a multi-colored jacket with cream-colored pants. 

5:10 p.m. | Woman shot while riding in vehicle on I-10 West

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said it is looking for a suspect vehicle, described as a red Mercedes sedan, after a woman in her 30s was shot in the hip while riding in a vehicle on Interstate 10. The woman is in non-life-threatening condition, according to police. 

Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to I-10 and Cassatt Avenue regarding a person shot.

Investigators believe the victim was riding as a passenger in a vehicle with her husband on I-10 West near Luna Avenue when a red Mercedes sedan started tailgating their vehicle. 

After tailgating the couple's vehicle, the Mercedes changed lanes, passed the victim's vehicle, and a man who was driving discharged a firearm, striking the victim. The occupants of the suspected vehicle were described as an unknown man and woman, police said. 

This incident marks at least the eighth time a person was shot while inside a moving vehicle in Jacksonville in the last couple of months. No suspect is in police custody.
