Police: 16-year-old shot in head, 20-year-old shot in back in Palatka

"The victims were transported to HCA Palatka Hospital and then transferred to trauma centers in the nearby area," the Palatka Police Department said.

PALATKA, Fla. — A 16-year-old girl and 20-year-old woman are in critical condition on the Fourth of July after they both were shot Wednesday night in Palatka, the Palatka Police Department said in a Facebook post.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., officers responded to the 700 block of North 16th Street in reference to the shooting, the post states. When officers arrived, police say they found the girl had been shot in the "face or head area," and that the woman had been shot in the back.

"Both victims were being assisted by citizens and were alert and conscious when officers arrived," the post states. "The victims were transported to HCA Palatka Hospital and then transferred to trauma centers in the nearby area."

The names of the victims are not being released at this time, according to police, as the post adds that they are currently stable.

While an investigation on the shooting is underway, the police department is asking anyone who has information regarding this incident, to contact Detective Lt. Colten Lee or Detective Sgt.
