JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 30-year-old man is in custody following a October Westside shooting death, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
JSO responded to a person shot in the 1200 block of Labelle St. on Oct. 30 and found 36-year-old Bernard Troutman Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dwayne Martin, 30, was identified as a person of interest in the case. He was later charged with second-degree murder. JSO issued a warrant June 29.
Troutman's shooting death occurred at the the Valencia Way Apartment complex in the Hillcrest neighborhood. A teen was killed in the same complex a week prior and police said at the time it was unclear if the shootings were connected.
According to the arrest warrant, a witness called 911 and said they saw Martin brandish a firearm, shoot the victim, and flee the scene. A second witness also identified Martin shooting Troutman.
"Wayne just shot that guy!" The witness said in the call. "Hey, Wayne just shot him. I was sitting right here, and Wayne pulled his gun out and shot him and went that way ... don't know who that is, but Wayne's the one who did it."
Officers later subpoenaed Martin's Facebook data and Google account, and the warrant stated "The IP addresses correspond to locations that are at the scene of the homicide as close as two hours prior to the shooting."
"Over the next several months, detectives worked diligently to gather and evaluate all available evidence and conduct numerous interviews," the sheriff's office said in a release. " ... (Martin) was subsequently located and arrested in the shooting death of the victim."
