JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead after a shooting at the Valencia Way Apartment complex in the Hillcrest neighborhood Monday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
At approximately 1 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the 1200 block of Labelle Street in reference to a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a man in his 20s or 30s with at least one gunshot wound. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue crews pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Police said the shooting took place outside of an apartment in broad daylight.
No suspect is in police custody.
This deadly shooting comes less than a week after a teenager was shot and killed at the same apartment complex Wednesday morning. It is unclear if the shootings are connected, police said.
Detectives with JSO's Homicide and Crime Scene units are canvasing the area for surveillance video and possible witnesses.
First Coast News asked if JSO is planning to increase its police presence in the area due to an uptick in violence.
"Every district has a set amount of officers, and we increase our patrols when crimes happen," said JSO Sergeant Robby Henson.
