JSO: Man shot in groin by woman while they both sat inside vehicle in Northwest Jacksonville

JSO's Sergeant Scott says the sheriff's office believes the man and woman "have some type of relationship," but doesn't believe they are family members.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff's officers responded a local hospital Wednesday morning after receiving a call about a man who had walked in with a gunshot wound, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office tells First Coast News.

JSO's Sergeant Scott says officers arrived at the hospital around 2 a.m. He says the man identified as Daniel Mellor, 47, according to the incident report, was shot by an unknown woman while they both sat inside a vehicle in the 1400 block of West 6th Street.

Mellor was shot once in the groin, according to police. And once he was shot, police say he got out of the car and ran away, while the woman fled the scene in the vehicle.

Scott says a friend of Mellor drove him to the hospital, as he and the sheriff's office believe the incident to be isolated.

The woman who shot the man is a white female, according to Scott.

"We believe they have some type of relationship... but no, we don't believe it's family members or anything like that at this point," Scott said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
