JSO: Man shot by suspect riding bike in Woodstock area

The victim, a man in his 40s, was taken to the hospital by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department with non-life-threatening injuries.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is recovering after he was shot while walking in the city's Woodstock area Tuesday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said around 11 a.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Huron Street regarding a person shot.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper chest.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was taken to the hospital by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the initial investigation determined the man was walking on a sidewalk around the 2700 block of West First Street when the suspect rode by on a bicycle.

When the suspect went to pass the victim, they exchanged unknown words resulting in the suspect pulling out a handgun and shooting the victim, according to police. The victim and suspect were unknown to each other.

The victim was able to walk to a nearby convenience store and ask for help, police said.

JSO Violent Crime and Crime Scene detectives responded to the scene to investigate, canvassing for video surveillance and possible witnesses.

Right now, no suspect is in custody and police did not provide a suspect description.
