Innocent bystander shot on St. Patrick's Day discharged from hospital, Jacksonville Beach Police say

Investigators say a gang member and another person involved in that shooting are still in the hospital with one of them in critical condition.

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla — First Coast News learned new information Wednesday about the condition of the innocent bystander police say was shot multiple times Sunday in Jacksonville Beach, a victim in one of three shootings that also left a man dead.

According to JBPD, the innocent bystander shot on the boardwalk by Best Western is being discharged from the hospital. Right now, police say a gang member and another person involved in that shooting are still in the hospital and one of them is in critical condition.

Investigators say no one is ruled out as a suspect except the innocent bystander who was shot. JBPD says they are not releasing the names of suspects until they are charged with crimes.

The search is still on for multiple suspects, though images from surveillance videos have yet to be released by police. One person they’re looking for was involved in the second shooting of the night where no one was hurt, but officers say a man was seen running and firing a pistol which they’ve recovered.

Another suspect could face a murder charge for shooting and killing 21-year-old James Jones, III, in the parking lot outside Sneakers and then running away toward Beach Boulevard and 2nd Street, according to investigators. This shooting took place roughly 40 minutes after the first shooting.

Even though Jacksonville Beach is dealing with a cyberattack, police say that didn’t impact the city’s surveillance system and some of those cameras may have captured some of the people involved Sunday.

First Coast News is expecting images of suspects and the official police reports to be released soon.

Right now, JBPD is urging people to submit their tips and videos from that violent St. Patrick’s Day to them and the FBI. Learn how to do that here.
