Now, his family is preparing for Thanksgiving without him.
“Our faith is what is holding us together, we’re all heartbroken," Mackey, said.
Mackey was killed during a car accident on Nov 12. An investigation revealed that JSO corrections officer Cashius Edwards was speeding and driving under the influence when he hit Mackey’s SUV.

First Coast News now knows that Mackey was driving the SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Edwards is facing two felony charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide and has been suspended without pay.
“I myself just was totally appalled at the seems to be negligence of the correctional officer when being in law enforcement this is something you see on a daily basis," Mackey said.
Mackey would have turned 33 in December, but instead of a birthday, his family is preparing for his funeral.
“He’s going to be truly truly missed," Florence Mackey, his mother, said.
The Mackey family is has started a gunfundme to collect money for the children he left behind.
Waters says JSO will conduct an administrative review of the incident.
