JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two people are dead after two separate overnight crashes occurred in Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Southside crash
JSO's Sergeant Hungerford says a man in his early-40s died in a single-vehicle crash that happened at approximately 1:56 a.m. Sunday.
Hungerford says the unidentified man was driving a 4-door sedan when he "drifted off the roadway and struck the traffic signal pole at the entrance to UNF" in the 4800 block of Kernan Boulevard South.
Furthermore, Hungerford says first responders with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived on scene and took the man to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.
Police say the man was the only occupant of the vehicle as this crash marked the 162nd traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
Westside crash
JSO's Sergeant Hungerford says a person driving a Mitsubishi SUV died following a collision with a Toyota Camry on Jacksonville's Westside.
Hungerford says the crash occurred at the intersection of Lane Avenue and San Juan Avenue at approximately 1:53 a.m. He says the driver of the Mitsubishi was traveling southbound on Lane Avenue while the driver of the Camry, was traveling northbound on Lane Avenue.
Next, JSO says the driver of the Mitsubishi "pulled into the path of the Toyota Camry as it made a left hand turn to go east on San Juan Avenue." The vehicles collided, police say, and the driver of the Mitsubishi was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
Hungerford says the driver of the Camry was taken to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.
JSO says this crash marked the 163rd traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
