Dangerous heat continues to dominate the First Coast with a high humidity as the first day of school begins Monday for Northeast Florida counties except Clay.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The First Coast's Most Accurate Weather Team is issuing a Weather Impact Alert for Monday, Aug. 12. As we have seen over the last few days, the heat continues to dominate Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia with a high humidity. This will make for heat indices over 110 degrees at times. Couple that with the fact people will be heading to their first day of school today, busy day.

WHEN: Monday, Aug 12. from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

IMPACT: Heat index values to reach in the dangerous range between 108 and 112 degrees.

NEED: Stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks from the sun and the outdoors. Extended time outside without breaks or shade could lead to heat-related illnesses.

Cooling centers are open at several City of Jacksonville facilities Monday, including:

  • All COJ public libraries
  • COJ community centers
  • COJ pools and splash pads

Free transportation is being offered to cooling centers by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.
