Next one to watch

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Here's a breakdown of what to expect as Debby continues to move to our northeast:

Forecast Path and Strength

  •  Saturday: Debby will weaken and pick up speed as it races northeast along eastern states.

Warnings and Watches

  • None locally

Regional Impacts

  • Rising Rivers : Santa Fe, and Satilla rivers are expected to rise to flood stage. All creeks and rivers that Georgia rain drains into will swell.
  • Rain: Rain has tapered off but water levels remain high in many rivers.

The additional tropical wave we're watching

The next system will probably become Ernesto.   With above average sea surface temperatures and an above average hurricane season forecast having another storm so quickly is to be expected this year. We will continue to post new updates as new information becomes available on the extended forecast.

The Atlantic waters are at record warm levels; as hot as what is typical for September. That is why our hurricane season was running about 2 months ahead of schedule.

In August, the most likely place for tropical systems to develop are over the eastern Caribbean, but they can develop anywhere.
