State of emergency declared for First Coast as tropical system approaches Gulf

The National Hurricane Center says Invest-97L has a 70% chance of development over the next seven days.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — First Coast News is tracking the latest tropical developments at this link here.

Governor Ron DeSantis issued a state of emergency for Duval County and most of the First Coast ahead of the potential landfall of Invest-97L.

The tropical wave, currently being monitored in the Atlantic, will begin to move into an area more conducive for development over the next two to three days. What happens after that will determine the impact on Florida, and more specifically, the First Coast.

The National Hurricane Center says Invest-97L has a 70% chance of development over the next seven days.

"Florida is monitoring Invest 97L in the Atlantic, which is expected to strengthen and potentially make landfall as early as this weekend," DeSantis said. "It will be slow-moving and bring lots of rain that could cause significant flooding."
