YULEE, Fla. — A Fernandina Beach man and a Hilliard woman were killed in a head-on crash Tuesday night in Yulee, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
At 6:40 p.m., FHP says a 1991 Dodge pickup truck was traveling north on U.S. Highway 17, north of Quail Ridge Road, while a 2018 Kia Sportage was traveling south on the highway, also north of the road.
FHP's crash report states the 58-year-old Fernandina Beach man "failed to maintain control of his vehicle which caused the vehicle to enter the southbound lane and into the direct path of Kia Sportage."
The report further details that the front of the Dodge pickup truck collided with the front of the Kia. And after the impact occurred, the pickup truck "went over the concrete wall and fell to it's final rest," according to the report.
"The Kia came to final rest, facing east, in the southbound travel lane," the report states.
The Fernandina Beach man and the Hilliard woman who was a passenger in the Kia, were pronounced dead on the scene, according to FHP. The driver of the Kia, a 53-year-old Hilliard man, suffered serious in the crash, FHP says.
Troopers did not release the identities of the people involved in the crash.
