JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Lanes of San Jose Boulevard will remain closed Monday as JEA crews continue repairs on a water main 25 feet below the street surface.
In a news release Sunday night, a JEA spokesperson said crews were remediating an excavation on San Jose Boulevard between Old River Road and Claire Lane.
"Ground saturation significantly impeded the site work, making it unsafe to continue without additional equipment," the spokesperson said.
JEA said additional shoring equipment and a large operational crane will be needed to provide stability to the work site, which allows crews to focus solely on the water main repair.
The repair work means four lanes of traffic on San Jose Boulevard will be impacted.
JEA said it will close two inside southbound travel lanes from Plummer Cove Road to Old River Road and two inside northbound lanes from Ricky Road to Claire Lane.
"We encourage drivers to consider alternate routes and avoid the area when possible. Please observe all construction signs, detours and general directions provided by the crews working on-site," the spokesperson said.
JEA is anticipating the repairs and closures to continue through the week and into the weekend.
