JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said Sunday on X following the team's loss against the Texans that he's "feeling better." This, all after he was carted off of the field at EverBank Stadium, exiting the game in the 2nd quarter with a concussion.
"Thank you to everyone who has reached out / been praying for me. I’m home and feeling better. Means a lot, thank you all🙌," Lawrence said in a post on his X page.
The Jags' quarterback suffered the head injury at the 4:14 mark in the 2nd quarter when he escaped the pocket to his left before sliding at the first down line.
Here's the play:
Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, who delivered the brutal hit on Lawrence, resulting in the quarterback's injury, was ejected from the game after the play, as a brawl was initiated and several flags were thrown by officials.
Jaguars rookie cornerback Jarrian Jones was ejected from the game, too; he threw a punch during the scuffle. As Al-Shaair was walking off the field, he walked towards the Jaguars' sideline and got in the face of Brandon Scherff. Mac Jones then took over in Lawrence's absence.
Jones would go on to finish the game with 235 passing yards on 20 completions and two touchdowns.
In Doug Pederson's postgame press conference, the Jaguars head coach said he checked up on Lawrence at halftime of the game, but did not yet have the chance to talk with him again afterward before talking with reporters.
"Yeah, I haven't talked to the docs yet," Pederson said. "I did see him at halftime. He was moving around and everything. We'll be fine, he'll obviously go into the [concussion] protocol, but I haven't talked to him here after the game yet. It's a play that really has no, you know, business being in our league."
When asked where the blow against Lawrence ranks in terms of "dirty hits" Pederson has seen, Pederson said: "I've got a lot of respect for coach [DeMeco] Ryans. I mean, I know he doesn't coach his team that way. We don't coach our team that way. It's unfortunate, it really is. It's unfortunate. I'm just glad that Trevor's gonna be fine."
With a loss against the Jags' AFC South division rival, the big cats now sit at the bottom of the division with a record of 2-10.
