Mandarin High School's Jaime Ffrench commits to Texas after decommitting from Alabama

Ffrench, a five-star recruit, chose Texas over the University of Miami, Louisiana State University and the University of Tennessee Friday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jaime Ffrench Jr., one of the top college football recruits in the country who attends Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, has committed to playing for the University of Texas on the next level, he announced Friday.

The five-star recruit chose Texas over the University of Miami, Louisiana State University and the University of Tennessee.

Ffrench decommitted from the University of Alabama following longtime head coach Nick Saban's retirement announcement. He stated at the time that Saban's departure played a role in his decision to decommit, but wasn't the only reason.

"It was a big reason, but it wasn't the whole reason," Ffrench told First Coast News in January. "Nobody there recruited me anymore. So, it's like I wanted to take a big step back and just overlook things. Schools who were head over heels about me, just take the time to give them some time to overlook things."

Ffrench also told First Coast News in January that he was "definitely" interested in attending Ohio State University.

"I'm trying to look for who is most family-oriented," Ffrench previously said. "Who's going to treat me like home when my parents aren't there. Just trying to get a good feel because I have to be there without my parents."

Ffrench is the nation's fourth-best wide receiver for the recruiting class of 2025, according to 247Sports' rankings. He has more than 30 offers from colleges and universities nationwide.

Last week in Ffrench's first game of his senior year versus Creekside High School, he racked up 116 yards on four catches in a 57-13 win.

In an Instagram post made by Ffrench Friday, the 6'2, 180-pound product said: "Glad to be home! All Gas, No Brakes. Hook 'Em."
