CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. — Although almost 60 percent of active registered voters in Camden County have already cast their ballots, election leaders in the county are still encouraging residents to vote on Election Day Tuesday, as it's the last day not only to have a say in who wins the presidency, but also in the sheriff and mayor races.
So far, 20,000 people out of 37,000 that are registered in the county have voted.
Camden County Administrator Shawn Boatright told First Coast News he and election leaders anticipate a record number voter turnout rate, predicting to exceed 68% from the last presidential election in 2020.
Boatright adds that what's bringing people to the polls on top of the several races that are going on are the amendments, which offer the opportunity to create a new sales tax.
Still, regardless of what county you live in, Boatright emphasizes the need for people to vote.
"I think one of the biggest decisions that you can make personally that could affect you and your future generation, if you're gonna have any, it's your constitutional rights," Boatright said. "I think that it's the one opportunity that you really have to have your voice heard."
Eleven precinct locations are open countywide on Election Day; you will have to vote at your designated precinct location listed on your voter registration card. Election officials say for those who have an absentee ballot, your ballot must be dropped off no later than 7 p.m.
