St. Johns County
St. Johns County is providing free sandbags on Tuesday and Wednesday at six locations throughout the county ahead of Tropical Storm Helene making landfall as an expected major hurricane in Florida, according to a news release.
The county told First Coast News sandbags will be provided "as long as weather permits" from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday. For Wednesday, sandbags will be provided from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Here are the six locations where you can get sandbags, according to the county:
- Windswept Acres Park – 5335 State Road A1A South, St. Augustine
- Solomon Calhoun Community Center – 1300 Duval St., St. Augustine
- St. Johns County Equestrian Center – 8200 Smith Rd., Hastings
- St. Johns Mills Field – 1805 Race Track Rd., St. Augustine
- North Beach Park – 3721 Coastal Hwy., Vilano Beach
- Palm Valley Bridge – East side of the Intracoastal Waterway
St. Johns County says the public must provide their own transportation and shovels and will be responsible for filling their own bags. Additionally, the county says there is a 20 bags per person limit. A sandbag typically weighs about 30 to 40 pounds.
Putnam County
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, sandbags are available in Putnam County. Officials say they are there all night and people need to bring a shovel.
The locations are:
- 145 West Washington Street, Hawthorne
- 341 Paradise Circle, San Mateo
- 5226 Silver Lake Drive, Palatka
- 51 Sportsman Drive, Welaka
- Jonas Road, Crescent City
Baker County
The Baker County Sheriff's Office Division of Emergency Management is monitoring Helene. The county and the city of Macclenny will be distributing sandbags to Baker County residents starting Tuesday until 7 p.m. and going until Wednesday until 7 p.m. There is a limit of six bags per household.
The sandbags are located at 764 Hartline Drive in Macclenny.
Columbia County
Southeast Georgia
Camden County
The City of St. Marys is the first part of Camden County to announce where sandbags can be found. Residents of St. Marys can pick up sandbags on Tuesday until 6 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Glynn County
Glynn County and the city of Brunswick are making sandbags available at the following three locations for free, according to Public Information Officer Lawton Dodd:
- Fire Station #3 at 3129 4th St., Brunswick
- North end of parking lot of Harold Pate Building, 1735 Reynolds St., Brunswick
- St. Simons Island Fire/Police/Public Works Substation near the airport
