Justice Coalition calling on community to help family of slain Jacksonville Uber driver

The Justice Coalition is asking for support for the family of the Uber driver who was killed in October 2023, when his passenger was targeted by a shooter.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Justice Coalition is calling on the community to help the family of the Uber driver who was shot and killed in October 2023.

Bryant Grund was murdered while dropping off Antonio Tillie, Jr. Both men were killed in what police called a gang-related shooting. He was the main provider for his family, and he was about to start a new job before he was killed.

The Justice Coalition is now asking for help to support Grund's mother, Heidi Doyle, and his two younger siblings who have been living in a hotel. They held a press conference Friday to plead with the public.

"They need a place to live because they’re going to have to move and they need some financial assistance. We’ve exhausted our resources and they have less than a week to come up with some help," Richard Bracewell, the Chairman of the Board for the Justice Coalition, said.

Two people were arrested in connection to the killings. Ju'Quan Mills and Diamond Harris were both released from jail and they are now on house arrest. Doyle said she trusts the decision to put them on house arrest, but the thought of them out of jail is still unsettling.

“It was terrifying at first, I didn’t feel safe," Doyle said.

Their safety was part of the reason why the Justice Coalition wants to help the family move forward from this tragedy. Despite the loss of her son, Doyle and her children are holding on to hope and believe their loved one is looking down on them.

"To have met Bryant was to have been impacted by a light so bright. Everyone take the time to be grateful for everything that they have every single day, because you just don’t know when things can change," Doyle said.

The Justice Coalition set up a GoFundMe to raise money for Doyle. People can also call the organization at 904-783-6312.
