JSO: 1 dead and 1 injured after shooting on the Westside

Classification of the shooting is "pending," JSO said, after officers heard gunshots and found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead and another injured from a shooting on the Westside Saturday night, police said.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. Saturday, officers were working off-duty at a park at 7600 Wiley Road when they heard gunshots and were directed to the scene with two men suffering from gunshot wounds, JSO said in a release.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived and took one victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, with the other victim pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting happened about a mile away from a shooting near Normandy Manor that left a man injured Friday night.

The investigation is ongoing and the classification of the shooting is "pending."

"This appears to be an isolated incident and there are no threats to the community," JSO said in the release.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500, email JSOCRIMETIPS@Jaxsheriff.org or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
