FHP: JSO officer at fault for crash with two vehicles on Emerson and Philips Highway Thursday

The officer, who was responding to a traffic crash with emergency equipment activated, did not receive a citation.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A JSO officer was at fault for a crash last week at the busy intersection of Emerson Street and Philips Highway that sent the officer and the driver who collided with him to the hospital, a Florida Highway Patrol report said.

At approximately 6:16 p.m. Dec. 14, a JSO officer heading east on Emerson Street was responding at a traffic crash with injuries and lane blockage and slowing down where the street intersects with Philips Highway. The officer was in a marked Ford Explorer SUV with lights and siren activated and had cleared the intersection, the report said.

The report said a dark midsized SUV heading north on Phillips Highway had a green light and did not yield in the outside right lane, striking the passenger’s side of the sheriff's office vehicle, disabling both vehicles. The crash extended into a sedan that was stopped westbound on Emerson Street waiting to turn onto Phillips Highway.

The officer identified as "T. Brown" and the driver of the vehicle that collided with him were taken to Memorial Hospital with "non-incapacitating injuries." FHP reported the passenger of the car waiting to turn onto Philips Highway received possible injuries from crash.
