JSO officer, driver with 'minor injuries' after crash on Emerson Street and Philips Highway

Officer was responding to another crash with lights and siren on, JSO said. The officer and other driver were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A traffic crash between a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office vehicle and another driver at the intersection of Philips Highway and Emerson Street resulted in both drivers being transported to local hospitals with non life-threatening injuries, according to the agency.

At approximately 6:16 p.m., a JSO officer heading east on Emerson Street was responding at a traffic crash with injuries and lane blockage and slowing down where the street intersects with Philips Highway. The officer was in a marked Ford Explorer SUV with lights and siren activated, JSO said.

A dark midsized SUV heading north on Phillips Highway did not yield in the outside right lane, striking the passenger’s side of the sheriff's office vehicle pushing it into a vehicle that was stopped westbound on Emerson Street waiting to turn southbound onto Phillips Highway, according to the sheriff's office.

The officer and another citizen were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries. The intersection of Phillips Highway and Emerson St. was closed for more than an hour as detectives completed their investigation.
