JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man has been charged with two counts of murder after the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said he flagged down officers and admitted to shooting two people on Aug. 1

JSO said Daton Haggary, 42, alerted officers that he shot two people at an Arlington home near Whitlock Avenue and Pinebluff Drive. According to his arrest report, Haggary told officers he left the gun in a chair outside the house.

The officers responded to the home, located the gun and noticed the magazine was empty. The report states they then discovered the two victims unresponsive in the living room, both with gunshot wounds. Also found in the living room were .40 caliber casings near the dead bodies, the report says.

JSO said this gave officers enough evidence to arrest Haggary for possession of a firearm after a background check confirmed he was a convicted felon. An investigation into the two deaths then began.

Detectives confirmed a 44-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were the victims of the shooting and gathered enough evidence to officially charge Haggary with their murders one week later.

Officers said they talked with a witness during their investigation who told them Haggary lived with the two victims he shot and killed.
