JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man died at a local hospital Sunday night after he was found shot inside of a vehicle on Jacksonville's Southside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
JSO's Sergeant Henson says at 9:35 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 4600 block of Putnam Avenue regarding a crash. When they arrived, Henson says the man was found inside the vehicle, "suffering from at least one gunshot wound," Henson told First Coast News.
First responders with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the scene, according to police, and took the man to a local hospital where he died. Henson says he was "somewhere around 30 years old."
"We believe the traffic crash was the result of the gunshot wound," Henson told First Coast News.
JSO's Homicide Unit detectives as well as its Crime Scene Unit detectives responded to the scene to canvass the area for possible surveillance video and potential witnesses, according to Henson.
"At this time, we do not know the circumstances of this incident or the relationship of those involved," he said. "Because of this, the classification of the incident is going to be pending."
Police currently do not have a suspect description and did not release the identity of the man who died, as the sheriff's office says an investigation into the incident, which is ongoing, will be worked alongside the State Attorney's Office and Medical Examiner's Office.
