'Anything will help' | Man, dog displaced after mobile home caught fire on Jacksonville's Westside

Jimmy Lee Hendrix, the owner of the mobile home, told First Coast News he believes the fire started from a candle that was left unattended in the bathroom.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Red Cross is assisting a man and his dog after a fire destroyed their mobile home Thursday morning, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. JFRD said on X that the fire occurred in the 8600 block of Susie Street on the city's Westside.

Jimmy Lee Hendrix says it took less than 10 minutes for the flames to fully engulf his mobile house. All he has left are the clothes on his back and his dog, Boomer.

"It'll be alright sooner or later," Hendrix chuckled.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department says the mobile home fire occurred in the 8600 block of Susie Street.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire was a lit candle. Hendrix confirmed to First Coast News that a candle was left unattended in the bathroom of his home. He believes his dog knocked it over while he was outside. 

No one was injured in the fire, according to JFRD.
