JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two adults were displaced after a "heating pad malfunction" caused a fire to erupt and damaged multiple units at a Northwest Jacksonville apartment complex Friday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

The fire happened at Cascade Apartments, located at 2114 Kings Park Dr. JFRD tells First Coast News that no injuries were reported, but one apartment unit was "completely damaged." First responders say the two adults who were displaced are being assisted by the Red Cross.

JFRD also told First Coast News that air meters and fans were put up in connecting apartments to test for carbon dioxide. There were no issues or concerns of the fire spreading due to the apartments being a concrete building, JFRD said.
