JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The 13-year-old boy who was hit by a car on Kings Road last Wednesday has died.
Kameron Turner's stepmother confirmed he died Monday at 2:32 p.m.
She tells First Coast News that his heart will be donated to another child.
Kameron was with his brother, on their way to school, when he was struck by a car. Police said they did not use the crosswalk, but also said the driver who hit Kameron was possibly on her cellphone.
The driver, a woman in her 60's, was not intoxicated and was not charged, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
"Detectives have already mapped the scene and they'll be evaluating speeds to see if that was a contributing factor," JSO Sgt. Robert Hungerford told First Coast News at the time. "We will evaluate everything, take in totality the circumstances to see if there is culpability."
As for the woman accused of using her phone, he said, "You're allowed to use the phone in Florida, it just depends on how you're using that phone."
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Kameron's family has started a GoFundMe page for him.
