Two Jacksonville brothers hit, killed by cars exactly three months apart

Dalton Penkacik was killed in a hit-and-run early Friday morning. His brother, 12-year-old Brighton Penkacik, also died after being struck by a car on Sept. 1.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville family is grieving two brothers who were hit and killed by cars, exactly three months apart.

The Penkacik family has identified the man hit and killed on Blanding Boulevard early Friday morning as 25-year-old Dalton Penkacik.

Dalton was an Amazon employee at a Jacksonville delivery center and on his way to work when he was killed at 1:15 a.m. in the 4500 block of Blanding Boulevard.

According to JSO, an officer was responding to a separate call at the time the incident happened and while on the way, they found him, lying across the inside southbound lane.

His brother, 12-year-old Brighton Penkacik, was also struck by a vehicle and killed on Sept. 1 on his way to school.

Brighton was running from a dog while walking to his bus stop around Lane Avenue S. when he was hit. The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with the Jacksonville police.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the Dalton "fled the scene without rendering aid, calling for help, or reporting the incident," the sheriff's office says. Detectives suspect the hit-and-run vehicle is a Volkswagen based on evidence left at the crash scene.

Anyone with information about the incident, is encouraged to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a possible cash reward, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
