JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As Tropical Storm Debby is expected to intensify, here's a look at how counties across the First Coast are preparing.
Several counties in our area are offering free sandbags for residents. Here's a look at locations, county by county.
What: Free sandbag distribution
Where: City Yard, 764 Hartline Drive
When: Sunday, Aug. 4, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
More information: Residents are limited to six sandbags per household.
What: Free sandbag distribution
Where:
- Fleming Island: Eagle Harbor Soccer Complex, 4287 Lakeshore Dr.
- Middleburg/Clay Hill: Omega Park, 4317 County Road 218
When: Sunday, Aug. 4, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
More information: Sandbags are limited to 10 per resident. The county will refill locations with sand as needed. Shovels are not provided.
The Clay County Emergency Management's call center is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Call 1-877-252-9362.
What: Free sandbags distribution
Where:
- Columbia County Public Works, 607 NW Quinten St., Lake City
- Fort White Community Center, 17579 SW State Road 47, Fort White
- Southside Sports Complex, 1963 SW Bascom Norris Dr., Lake City
When: Saturday, Aug. 3, until 7 p.m. & Sunday, Aug. 4, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
More information: Sandbags are limited to 15 bags per vehicle.
Where:
- Sandbags are available in Glynn County in the grass parking lot near the Pate Building, 1725 Reynold St., the Public Safety Complex on north side of Animal Services, Fire Station 2 on St. Simons Island and Fire Station 4 on St. Simons Island.
What: Free sandbag distribution
Where: Solomon Calhoun Community Center, 1300 Duval St.
When: Sunday, Aug. 4, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
More information: Residents must provide their own transportation and shovels. Maximum 20 sandbags per person.
