JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The River City is one of the Top 10 best places to retire in the United States for 2025, according to a new report.
U.S. News & World Report evaluated 150 top cities in the country to see how they square up against Americans' retirement expectations. Here's what they found.
Jacksonville ranks 7th best place to retire
Jacksonville is ranked seventh in the 2025 Best Places to Retire category by U.S. News & World Report.
Other Florida cities Naples and Sarasota ranked first and fourth, respectively.
The rankings were scored based on several factors including a city's overall quality of life, housing affordability, health care quality, crime, weather and more. Jacksonville got an overall score of 6.8 out of 10, a score of 7.1 for housing affordability and a 4.8 score for health care, according to the report.
The report notes that as the largest metro area by land mass in the continental U.S., Jacksonville is "big enough to find something for everyone to enjoy."
From live sporting events to outdoor activities, to fine arts and local restaurants: Jacksonville has something for anyone looking to settle down, the report notes.
It points to Jacksonville's special location along the Atlantic coast, golf courses, parks and waterways, the "growing restaurant scene" in the San Marco and Southside neighborhoods and art museums and theatres as just a few reasons why the city ranked high on the list for best places to retire.
The report said Jacksonville offers a better value than other similar-sized cities when comparing housing costs to median household income. Also mentioned were the city's below-national-average housing costs, growing job market and nationally ranked high schools.
Jacksonville also ranks seventh in the Best Places to Live in Florida in 2025-26 and 56th in the Best Places to Live in the U.S. in 2025-26 category.
