JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville high school was placed on lockdown Tuesday amid a rumor of a potential school shooting, Duval County Public Schools announced.

The school threat at Englewood High School was deemed unfounded, and no threat or any type of violence was discovered, according to a Duval County Public Schools representative.

The representative shared with First Coast News the message the school district sent to families. The message states that "something caused the students to panic," but "calm has been restored, and students are safe."

DCPS added that students are encouraged to remain at school for the rest of the school day, but also understand if parents would like to pick up their children early.

The full message to parents can be read below.

Hello Englewood High School families, this is Duval County Public Schools. As we texted you earlier, the school did go on a lockdown as a result of information received regarding a rumor of a potential school shooting. School Police and JSO are on the scene. Students are safe, and there is no threat to the school. While there was no threat or any type of violence, something caused some students to panic. Calm has been restored, and students are safe. We are encouraging students to remain at school for the remainder of the school day. While the situation is now calm and there is no threat to the school, we do understand if parents would like to pick up children early. If you would like to do so, authorized adults can pick up students from the auditorium following normal procedures; however, again, there is no requirement to do so. We will continue to keep you informed, but for now we want to emphasize that the school is safe, multiple police are at the school, and there is no active threat. Thank you and we will continue to keep you informed.

The first text message sent to families stated the following:

Englewood High families: The school is on lockdown as a precaution while police investigate a threat. Please standby for additional updates. As a reminder, no one is allowed to enter or leave campus while the school is on lockdown.

On Monday, an Englewood High School student was arrested for bringing multiple firearms onto school campus, the principal said in a message to parents.
