JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An Englewood High School student is facing a felony charge for bringing multiple firearms onto school campus Monday, the school's principal said in a message to parents.
Law enforcement located two firearms in a car parked in the school's parking lot: an assault rifle, handguns and ammunition, school officials said.
A weapons detection dog located the firearms and they are in police custody. The student responsible was arrested and will be charged with a felony.
"In addition to the criminal consequences that may emerge from this event, I assure you that I will pursue the highest possible disciplinary consequences under the student code of conduct," said Marleny Chirino, the school's principal.
She added: "While my main goal is to keep you informed, I also want to emphasize that behaviors such as bringing weapons to campus and making threats are not tolerated in our school district."
