COJ extends Legends Center hours as JEA works to restore power after severe storms

The center located at 5130 Soutel Drive was opened for residents without power and will remain open until 10 p.m. Saturday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The City of Jacksonville is extending the hours of operation for the Legends Center on Saturday as JEA works to restore power that was lost during Friday's severe weather.

The center located at 5130 Soutel Drive was opened for residents without power and will remain open until 10 p.m. Saturday, the city said in a release.

"Our partners at JEA are tirelessly working to restore the remaining outages. We understand the challenges, and we want to make sure everyone feels comfortable while they continue their efforts," said a city spokesperson on Saturday.

Strong winds were reported across the First Coast on Friday, causing widespread damage and power outages. In Jacksonville, a semitruck overturned on the Dames Point Bridge after wind speeds topped 73 mph. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As of 4:50 p.m., JEA's outage map reported 66 active outages with 391 customers still without power.
