NASSAU COUNTY, FLORIDA, Fla. — A Yulee man is charged with second-degree attempted murder after a "heated argument" escalated into a shooting Wednesday afternoon, according to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office.
Chad Jones, 32, is currently in custody at the Nassau County Jail.
Police say the incident unfolded when the sheriff's office received a 911 call reporting that someone had been shot multiple times in the hip area. When deputies arrived at the scene, NCSO says Jones was detained and deputies interviewed witnesses.
Witnesses told deputies that Jones and the victim had been involved in "numerous altercations," according to police. The sheriff's office says tensions reached a "boiling point" and that Jones had allegedly fired twice at the victim while they were walking away.
The victim, whose identity has not been released by police, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of their gunshot wounds. Police did not release information on where the shooting occurred either.
Jones was then arrested and taken into custody, "where he awaits further legal proceedings," NCSO tells First Coast News.
