JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — More than a year after the murder of a woman found shot multiple times inside a car on Jacksonville's Westside, JSO detectives say they have charged the person responsible.
JSO spokesperson Ofc. Christian Hancock said officers arrested 23-year-old Anthony Gutierrez Tuesday after developing him as a suspect in the 2023 murder case.
On Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, JSO officers were called to the Our Community Club Park on Old Middleburg Road South, where a person called police after seeing a car parked with bullet holes. There, officers found a woman, later identified as 22-year-old Natalie Ann Acevedo, dead inside the car, shot multiple times.
First Coast News spoke with a nearby resident at the time who said the case was becoming far too frequent in the area.
“My wife heard gun shots about two o’clock this morning," said Bruce Arthur, who lives across the street from the park. "She said there was eight of them in rapid succession.”
Arthur said he managed to sleep through those gunshots his wife heard.
But, when he stepped out his front door the morning of Sept. 14, he was greeted by a park full of police officers across the street.
Arthur said at the time Our Community Club Park is pretty busy on the weekends with families at ballgames, but during the week, he says he's seen on-and-off issues at the park.
“I moved here in 1992 and I’d see five cars a day," said Arthur. "Now it’s a racetrack in front of my house. It’s easy access to commit a crime or do something illegal. People don’t want to talk about it, they want to resolve it with violence.”
JSO said Gutierrez was already in police custody when he was arrested for the murder.
