Woman facing murder, kidnapping charges after double shooting on Jacksonville's Westside

Iris Williams, 44, is facing charges of 2nd-degree murder, attempted murder, and kidnapping in the case, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville woman is facing multiple charges after a double shooting Wednesday left a man dead and another man with life-threatening injuries on the city's Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police arrested 44-year-old Iris Williams in the deadly shooting on charges of 2nd-degree murder, attempted murder, and kidnapping, among other charges.

Officers responded to a residence on Abelia Road at approximately 4:49 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a call from a woman who told police two people were shot and she was being held hostage, according to an arrest report.

Upon arrival, first responders located an unharmed woman and two men shot inside the residence. Officers located Williams outside the residence. It's unclear if the woman was the person who originally called police to report she was taken hostage.

According to the report, one of the men found was sitting in a chair with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

In a separate room, another man was found on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Crews with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pronounced the man dead at the scene.

An unidentified witness told police that at 8 p.m. on Oct. 17, both the victims and Williams were at the residence while she was cooking dinner.

One of the men was sitting in the living room and the other was in his bedroom with the door closed, the report said, while Williams was outside sitting in her car.

At some point, Williams came inside and the witness offered her food. An hour later, the witness said she went back to her bedroom, and moments later heard four gunshots.

Officers detained Williams for questioning and she was ultimately arrested.

Williams was convicted of felony manslaughter in 2005 and is facing additional charges for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Williams is being held on a more than $1.7 million bond.
