Second teen arrested for murder of 15-year-old shot, killed in Sandalwood

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office identified 15-year-old Gabriel Waisanen as the second teen arrested for the murder of Me'Kel Queen, 15.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A second teenager is facing charges in connection with the murder of Me’Kel Queen, 15, who was shot and killed on Java Drive in Sandalwood last month, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Gabriel Waisanen, 15, is facing charges of murder and armed robbery in Queen's murder. Waisanen isn't the only teen facing murder charges in the case.

Fifteen-year-old Bobby Dann was the first teen arrested in connection to Queen's death last month. Dann was arrested after investigators found a "wide range of evidence" connecting him to the crime, according to a release.

Police said Waisanen was also identified as a suspect following the investigation, but an arrest warrant was not obtained for his arrested until Friday.

Waisanen was detained for questioning and was ultimately arrested for murder and attempted robbery.

Police say Waisanen planned and provided the weapon in Queen's murder.

On Saturday, Sep. 2, officers were dispatched to the 10700 block of Java Drive. When officers arrived, they located a juvenile unresponsive lying in the road.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Witness told police that they heard fighting prior to the shooting.

That juvenile was later identified by family as 15-year-old Me'Kel Queen.

Queen's family spoke with First Coast News in September.

His father, Donnell Queen, said he last spoke with his son just hours before he was murdered.

“I can’t feel his spirit anymore, it hurts me to even be in the same area," said Donnell Queen, "I loved him with all my heart."

“We got to do something about this gun violence and violence period there’s not reason why people should handle any type of conflict with a gun," Queen said.
