JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating after a juvenile was found shot to death in a streetway in the Sandalwood area.
At approximately 1:40 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 10700 block of Java Drive in reference to a person shot.
Upon arrival, police found a male juvenile unresponsive in the road.
Once Jacksonville Fire and Rescue crews arrived on scene, they pronounced the victim dead.
Police say a person of interest has been detained and there is no danger to the public.
Homicide detectives also responded to conduct an on-scene investigation, which is still ongoing.
Police say the circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown, but referenced witnesses who reported hearing a dispute before also hearing multiple gunshots.
Police are conducting search warrants in the area and are reviewing surveillance video from houses in the area.
