JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Less than four weeks after a 16-year-old was shot and killed in Mandarin, a reward for information leading to the teen's killer has reached $10,000.
Derek "Dibbs" Pitts, 16, was killed after a shooting at Coopers Hawk apartments on the night of Dec. 29, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Officers found Pitts at 10275 Old St. Augustine Road suffering from a gunshot wound, and performed CPR until Jacksonville Fire and Rescue crews responded.
Pitts was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they believe there was a large group of juveniles congregating in the area when a fight broke out between two groups, ending with a suspect fatally shooting Pitts.
On the night of the shooting, police detained multiple witnesses to interview, however, no one has been arrested for Pitts' murder and there is no description of the suspect.
Right now, police don't know if Pitts was the shooter's target, or if there were multiple shooters.
