16-year-old killed in shooting on Old St. Augustine Road

A teenager suffered a gunshot wound in Mandarin at approximately 11:40 p.m. Friday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 16-year-old has died from a gunshot wound suffered Friday night in Mandarin, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Friday at approximately 11:40 p.m., JSO said patrol officers responded to 10275 Old St. Augustine Road, Cooper's Hawk Apartments, due to a shooting. When they arrived, they located a 16-year-old male who was shot.

The Sheriff's Office said CPR was performed until members from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation is ongoing with detectives from both the homicide unit and crime scene unit conducting the investigation. Detectives continue to canvass the area and they do not have a description of the suspect.

Police said there was a large group of juveniles in the area when an altercation occurred between two groups of individuals, with a suspect producing a firearm and shooting the victim and fleeing on foot. The sheriff's office said there were several witnesses detained and taken to the Police Memorial Building to be interviewed.
