JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after he was pepper-sprayed and shot on Jacksonville's Westside while trying to buy earbuds in a "meeting" with someone, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
JSO's Sergeant Lloyd says officers responded to 6577 Erma St. around 2 p.m. When an officer arrived, they were advised by multiple bystanders that the man identified as Derrick Breon Demetrius Gay, 25, was shot on Flowers Avenue, the incident report states.
Gay was found lying next to a white sedan in front of 6481 Flowers Ave., according to the report. He was taken to a hospital in Orange Park with non-life-threatening injuries as he "suffered a gunshot wound to the wrist and calf," Lloyd says.
"Multiple witnesses gave directions of travel for a possible suspect, who ended up running into a house," the report states. "Additional units located the described house and then took a subject into custody."
JSO did not release the subject's identity in the report, as it is redacted, and say that Guy was with his brother at the time the meeting/shooting happened.
The sheriff's office says the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
