JSO: Man 'grazed' by bullet after shooting on Emerson Street

The man sustained non life-threatening injuries and a search for a suspect is ongoing, police said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —  The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a Southside shooting that led to a man getting grazed by a bullet Friday night after an argument.

Officers responded to 2150 Emerson St. about a person shot around 11 p.m. Friday.

The sheriff's office said a man in his 20s was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The agency said the victim suffered a single gunshot graze to the head.

JSO determined the suspect and the victim know each other and do not have a domestic relationship, and that the victim and suspect engaged in an argument. The argument escalated and they began to fight, according to police. During the fight, the suspect revealed a handgun and shot the victim.

The suspect fled the area on foot and is not in police custody. The suspect is a Black male approximately 5’9” and 130 lbs, wearing dark clothing armed with a handgun.

Violent crimes and crime scene unit detectives are on the scene interviewing witnesses and canvassing for video surveillance. The investigation is ongoing, JSO said.

Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact the sheriff's office at 904-630-0500, email JSOCRIMETIPS@JAXSHERIFF.ORG or call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 866-845-TIPS.
