Man faces felony charges, accused of leading deputies and troopers on Nassau County high-speed chase

Steven Cole, 39, was arrested Tuesday after allegedly leading deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers on a chase along State Road 200.

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla — The man accused of leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase in a stolen truck in Nassau County is facing felony charges, the sheriff's office confirmed.

Steven Cole, 39, was arrested Tuesday after allegedly leading deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers on a chase along State Road 200 near Interstate 95 in Nassau County.

During the chase, officers threw stop sticks across State Road 200, in order to pierce the truck's tires. The chase ended with the truck inside a ditch on the side of the road.

First Coast News exclusively obtained a video of the chase from a nearby business owner.

Cole was taken into custody on Tuesday and made his first appearance in Nassau County court Wednesday morning.

He faces felony charges of aggravated fleeing with injury or damage and grand theft of a motor vehicle, as well as misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle without a valid driver's license, reckless driving with damage to personal property and trespass to an unoccupied structure.

Prosecutors recommended a bond of more than $253,000 for Cole, arguing he poses a "significant" danger to the community and is a flight risk.

Cole has a criminal history, prosecutors said, and was released from prison in October 2023 on drug charges.

Cole was booked by FHP and is being held in Nassau County Jail and Detention Center.

He is set to be back in court on March 14.
