JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Update: The man has been identified as Devin Pearson, 28.
A man is dead Wednesday after he was found shot multiple times at McGirts Village on Jacksonville's Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The unidentified man in his mid-to-late 20s, according to JSO's Sergeant Lessard, was found by officers with multiple gunshot wounds at approximately 12:50 a.m. at 8400 McGirts Village Ln. Lessard says officers responded to the townhome subdivision originally to assist the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department with the man that was down.
Police say JFRD then took the man to a hospital in Orange Park where he was later pronounced dead.
"At this time, we don't know the circumstances of the incident," Lessard says. "Because of this, the classification of the incident is pending. We believe this is to be an isolated incident."
Lessard also said the "suspect is at large."
Norman Rucker, a resident nearby, told First Coast News the incident makes him feel "uncomfortable."
"You know that [when] you go to sleep and wake up and something like this happens around your home, it's no good," Rucker said. "I was just like, 'Wow, I hope that ain't nobody dead.' And to come outside this morning and see this, it's crazy. It's nice and quiet over here, so to know that something like this to happen, it's kind of scary."
JSO says detectives with its Homicide and Crime Scene units responded to the scene to conduct an investigation as those efforts will be coordinated with the Medical Examiner's Office and the State Attorney's Office.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
