JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 26-year-old man is facing murder charges in connection with the shooting death of a teen Saturday night in the Fairfax neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Police arrested Kenneth James Jr., 26, for 2nd degree murder in the death of an unidentified 19-year-old who was found shot in the head Saturday on Melrose Avenue, an arrest report says.
Police responded Saturday afternoon to the 4200 block of Melrose Avenue in reference to a person shot. When police arrived, they found an unresponsive man in the road with a gunshot wound to the head, JSO says. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue took the victim to the hospital where he died.
After an interview with police, James was charged with murder in the shooting death of the teen, according to an arrest report.
During James' first appearance in court Monday, a judge said probable cause was found to charge him with 2nd degree murder. James is currently being held in Duval County Jail with no bond. His next court date is scheduled for October 3, 2023, according to JSO.
