A 21-year-old Jacksonville man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after a shooting near the downtown sports stadiums on May 31.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 21-year-old Jacksonville man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after a shooting near the downtown sports stadiums on May 31

An arrest report released by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Thursday said Jacobie Lewis shot a 19-year-old man in one of the parking lots used for Jumbo Shrimp games.

There were two events going on at the time of the shooting; a Jumbo Shrimp baseball game and a graduation ceremony for Westside High School at the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena.

There were officers working in the area in an off-duty capacity around 7:30 p.m. when one of them spotted a fight in parking lot P involving Lewis. The officer ran after Lewis and caught him near the corner of A Philip Randolph and Duval Street.

JSO said Lewis didn't listen to the officer's orders, and continued to flee on foot until he was apprehended in the area of the Jacksonville Fairgrounds. Lewis was arrested and taken in for questioning.

The gunshot victim was found in the parking lot and transported to a medical center with critical injuries, which requiring emergency surgery.

Three other men were detained by JSO for questioning following the incident.

In addition to attempted murder, Lewis has also been charged with resisting an officer without violence, and is being held at the Duval County Jail on no bond, the jail records show.
