2 charged in attempted murder of undercover JSO detectives, agency says

The arrests stem from a Sept. 20 incident where JSO detectives were "ambushed" during an undercover narcotics investigation on the Eastside.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters announced the arrests of two men charged with attempted murder after undercover JSO detectives were shot at on the Eastside in September.

JSO said Anthony Trotter, 22, and Ja'von Brown, 23, were both charged with two counts of attempted murder for "ambushing" two undercover detectives on Sept. 20.

The detectives were in the area of E 22nd Street and Florida Avenue that afternoon conducting a narcotics investigation when someone fired at least 18 rounds toward their vehicle, JSO said. Several bullets hit their car, "narrowly" missing the detectives inside.

JSO said Brown was the shooter and Trotter the getaway driver. Investigators believe Brown fired at the detectives' vehicle thinking he was shooting at rival gang members, not police officers.

Brown and Trotter were arrested six days after the shooting.
