JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has more information Wednesday regarding the search of a vehicle connected to an Interstate 295 road rage shooting that happened last month, according to a news release.

JSO says on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, shortly after 4 p.m., officers responded to the shooting that took place on I-295 South near Beach Boulevard. Police say two vehicles were engaged in "aggressive driving behavior," resulting in one driver shooting at the other vehicle a total of seven times.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from one driver not letting another driver merge into a lane.

"You have a responsibility to wait until you can properly merge, you can't force yourself in," Dukes said on the day of the shooting. "Those laws are there to set up a pattern of driving that's safe for everyone."

On Wednesday, the JSO release states that investigators have determined that the "suspect vehicle" is a four-door BMW resembling a light blue or silver in color 325i model. Police say the below picture is a "like vehicle" and not the actual vehicle.

Hours after the shooting happened, the sheriff's office said the driver whose vehicle was shot at seven times, was hit by one bullet in the back. The driver was identified as a man in his mid-20s. He was taken to an urgent care clinic, but was then taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

A second person in the vehicle that was shot at, did not suffer any injuries, police say. At this time, there is no suspect in custody, as the driver of the BMW that police are seeking, was the only person inside of the car at the time of the shooting, according to police.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
